Caring for destination

This tour provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:

Preserving the Biome Cerrado (Brazilian Savannah).

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

The activity is made obligatory using local guides and it is in the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park. The park is managed by the IBAMA (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources)/Chico Mendes Institute. It was created to preserve the Biome Cerrado. In terms of biodiversity, it would probably rank as the richest savannah in the world. UNESCO has earmarked the park as a World Natural Heritage Site.
